Earth-Conscious Holiday Cards

Consider buying holiday cards that express your concern for the earth -- buy recycled or purchase cards that give back in some way... Here are some ways you can do just that:

UNICEF Cards: available online, and at many stores including Ikea and Pier 1. You can purchase recycled cards with season-embracing images. Every card supports UNICEF's work.

Sierra Club: holiday cards are printed on recycled paper with soy-based inks. These beautiful winter holiday cards support the Sierra Club.

Rosetti Designs
One of the most complete collections of winter solstice holiday cards we've seen. All printed on recycled paper with vegetable-based inks.

Another fine source for holiday cards is Drawbridge, a nonprofit arts program for homeless children. Every card you buy helps a homeless child. $11 for 8 in several designs. Drawbridge Store also has tote bags and other gifts with the same designs.

Winter Solstice 2007: Dec 22, 6:08 am Universal Time

Be sure to adjust for your time zone:
EST: Dec 22, 1:08 am
CST: Dec 22, 12:08 am

PST: Dec 21, 10:08 pm

If your holiday celebration depends on knowing sunrise and/or sunset times for winter solstice or any other day in your location, find it online at the U.S. Naval Observatory. The database covers 22,000 US locations. For world locations, you'll need your latitude and longitude.

This site also lists solstices and equinoxes through 2020. You'll need to convert to your time zone from Universal Time.
